    Doctor’s Assistant / TREATMENT

    Qualification: first-level professional higher education
    Length of studies: 3 years (6 semesters)
                                  120 CP (180 ECTS)
    Language: Latvian
    Accreditation: accredited for full accreditation period of 6 years
    Study objectives:
    -    to acquire first-level higher professional Doctor’s Assistant education and fourth-level professional qualification
    -    to encourage formation of independent, creative, professional personality that would be able to provide emergency medical assistance to the victims in life-threatening, critical condition during the pre-hospital stage and in the hospital reception wards
    -    To provide an opportunity to prepare for continuation of education, in order to acquire the second-level professional higher education and fifth-level professional qualification
    -    To ensure the educational quality and development in accordance with the labour market that would encourage the improvement of health care system

    Requirements to applicants:
    -    secondary education
    -    knowledge of official state language
    -    motivation paper
    -    passed competition of the applicants.

    Description of curriculum:
    -    In the first academic year the student acquires and deepens his/her knowledge about the healthy human anatomy and physiology emphasizing the female, environment and its influence on the human’s health, basics of the interpersonal communication, basic concepts of sociology, pharmacology, acquires skills of emergency assistance. Undergoes the clinical nursing practice in the municipal and regional emergency assistance units under supervision of professional practice managers.
    -    In the second academic year the student acquires practical and theoretical knowledge in the work with patients of various profiles. Learns to acquire information about health status of the patient, to document it and to reasonably defend it
    -    In the third academic year the student acquires more profound knowledge and skills to operate in extreme situations
    -    Student elaborates research qualification work, in which she/he reveals his/her theoretical and practical knowledge in the clinical subjects and passes Qualification examination consisting of verification of his/her theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
    -    Upon completion of the curriculum the college-leaver is entitled to work in any health care establishment of Latvia, in emergency care units, in the national armed forces as well as in the health care establishments of the European Community. They are entitled to continue their education in post-diploma educational programmes and in the higher education establishments.
